Sex plays a very important role in the life of not just women but men as well. Based on research, more and more women suffer from painful sex caused solely by vaginal dryness. However, not so many women are willing to talk about this particular problem.

The reason is not far-fetched. We live in a deeply cultural and patriarchal society that places undue pressure on women not to speak too much about challenges they have related to sex.

Maybe their partner will take it as a slight on their sexual prowess.

Maybe the affected woman no longer feels attracted to her partner.

Maybe the affected woman is cheating on her partner.

or…just simply women do not just talk about these kinds of stuff.

The more common causes are when a woman is approaching menopause, after childbirth, during breastfeeding, when stressed and anxious or recovering from cancer.

Luckily, though, with groups such as the SlideSafe Initiative; there seems to be more awareness being done to persuade women to talk about their challenges. Everybody deserves to enjoy sex…and the only way challenges can be addressed and corrected is when it is talked about.

Whatever the reasons though, here are helpful ways to help get your mojo back;

1. Avoid Dehydration. The best way to stay hydrated is to drink water…and lots of water. Layoff the coffee. Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day will help keep your tissues moist, especially the vaginal ones.

2. Do not Be Shy To Lubricate. Sometimes, something as simple as rubbing a lubricant brings instant relief. Women have been known to use vaseline or even shea-butter. However, visiting your nearby certified healthcare centre or pharmacy will give you access to several options.

3 . Flee From Personal Hygiene Sprays and DouchingChemicals in these products have been known to  irritate the delicate tissues that line the vagina as well as terribly cause a pH imbalance. The vagina is surprisingly self-sufficient. So long as you wash regularly with clean water

4 . Good Fats Are your New Best Friend. Fats are good for you. Look for the good ones such as the avocado, olive or coconut oils and implement them in your meal or snack-times. Good fats make adequate levels of sex hormones and may help somewhat with vaginal dryness.

5 . Consider a topical estrogen cream and vaginal suppositories. They’re an option if your symptoms were brought on by menopause. But you’ll also need to take a progesterone tablet if you have a uterus to protect yourself from endometrial cancer. Bioidentical estrogen and progesterone are available for those who want chemically identical versions of the hormones made naturally by the body.

Our best advice though will be to consult with your doctor or gynaecologist to pinpoint the cause of the dryness, prescribe treatment
